4 week countdown

It's been almost 2 years since my last Ironman, but I am vividly remembering the last few weeks. The crazy tiredness. The hunger. The Irritability. The unknown.

Odd cravings like Wheat beer and more wheat bear. Macaroni and Cheese. I'd REALLY like a piece of chocolate cake right about now.

One thing I can say that is different from before, is I feel when it's go time, I'm going to be totally ready... and a different ready than I've felt before. We hired a new coach this year, and have had a whole new type of training. Completely different thinking. It's been new for the mind & the body, a change that was welcomed.

I'm not thinking about how I needed to be doing XXmiles at XX week, etc. I simply check my email, read my schedule, give feedback and do as I'm told. It's a breath of fresh air to tell you the truth.

This past week/weekend was our biggest week/end thus far. We finally had a race distance swim @4100meters. I was shocked at how good I felt based on the amount (or lack there of) swimming I've done.

We biked 220+miles for the week, and between the 48hrs of Sat am & Monday am we logged 160+ on the bike followed by our longest run of just under 2:40 & 18miles this morning. Totally tired, body a little trashed, but we did it, and finished strong.

I think I nailed my nutrition this weekend and it really helped me stay strong.

Have I mentioned I am in love with Snickers?

We rode in the rain, the wind, the sun. We were EXTREMELY lucky with the weather. I'll take a muddy wet bike ride in August ANY day over 110degs sun & humidity. It was fantastic.

I've been asked by several people what my time predictions are. Goals. I'm not sure I can answer that. I don't know the course & I haven't raced long for a while. I know I've worked hard, I've put in the time and I feel good. I'm healthy. I want to take it all in. Enjoy the course, enjoy the history and great support of the Penticton community that I have heard so much about.

I want to avoid bonking and I want to be able to put out there what I've put into this training. I want the hard work to show, and most importantly I want to have fun. I want to finish the race with a huge smile on my face, and enjoy some time with my friends. I want Shane & I both to finish this race STRONG. I'm not sure there is really much more I can ask or wish for at this point. No magical time, no huge goal to hit. To have it all come together would make my day complete!

Ok, so maybe, just maybe I still want to beat Shane out of the water.....

Just came across your blog, although I don't often write about our dog I love the Tri-Dogmom premise. I did IM Canada last year and had a blast, certain you will too. We'll be watching, my Big Brown Bear (aka Boston the chocolate lab) and I, well I'll be watching, he'll probably be writhing in the ground or trying to eat all the discarded gels and bars. Have a great race!

Molly (Muppets on Parade) told me to read up on your blog. I have a vizsla too, and she's all about the running and peanut butter too! Sounds like you had an awesome weekend and are getting ready to GO GO GO on race day. I have quite a few friends from Richmond doing IMCanada, so you'll be in good company. Best of luck!
