movin' on up

Image
I'm clearly pretty behind on the blog updates… Life has taken some incredibly tragic turns and I'm just trying to get by day to day.  As I mentioned in my last post, my mom suddenly passed away at the beginning of March.  Between trying to get through each day, to planning an out of town service; training was most certainly a life saver for me.  Because the service was to be held 5 weeks after my mom's passing, I was doing everything imaginable to keep myself pre-occupied and stay together. What better opportunity to have a mental break then visiting my favorite place, Rocky Point.  This was my first introduction to the multi-sport life 10 years ago when we headed down south for the RP Tri.  I was too scared to do the race and just did the 10k, but over the past several years I put my big girl pants on and have moved up to facing my my ocean swim fears and racing the Olympic race.  It's one of kind for sure.  You never know what you are going to g...

Tri 4 the Cure

Image
A couple of weeks ago, post camp while still on my antibiotics for bronchitis and sinus infection, I decided on a whim to participate in AZ's Tri 4 the Cure event. It's a super sprint race with a majority of first timers as well as some local Elite athletes. Last year I watched in amazement as people zipped through the 4oometer swim in record time as well as scared to death first time swimmers hanging on to the ledge at times. 30lb mountain bikes followed the $5000 TT bikes and disc wheels. 15min mile joggers running their first 2 miles EVER as well as 6min mile speedsters. Inspirational? Yah, pretty much sums it up. So, on Wednesday before the Sunday race I registered with the "Elite" crew. I laughed at the thought of it when it was suggested to me, but what did I have to lose? With my mom's sudden passing I have an entirely new outlook on life. No regrets. Live every day to it's fullest, the sky is the limit.. and most importantly…. take care of you...

Rocky Point Triathlon Warm up

Image
Yesterday was kinda a tough day for me. Emotions were high and I was in a crappy, stressed out & frustrated mood. I did receive a special delivery from my college bff, Erin that helped, but one can only eat so much chocolate. EVEN ME! So, a few texts back and forth with one of my partners in crime and sure enough T was at my door ready to lift my spirts… and a cocktail glass. She rode her bike over and the plan was for Matty to pick her up after his tennis match. Not only did he come join us, but he also picked up some dinner on the way. Seriously, my friends are awesome. Apparently they didn't agree with me that Vodka and chocolate was an appropriate meal. A few too many cocktails, some unnecessary drunk texts to Michelle , and I was on my way to practicing the art of the pre-rocky point triathlon experience. This is what I usually look like a the finish line… Complete DEATH. So, after practicing the cocktail part last night, I woke up and made a detox juice (spinach, k...

CAMP

Image
While BSC training camp was one of the coolest things I've ever done, I'd be lying if I said I was ready for it to end. The emotional roller coaster that was my week leading up to it put me in a land of such unfamiliar territory I can't even remember half of the weekend. I don't remember the pain of pushing myself to limits, I don't remember every feeling like I had gone over the edge. And, most of all that feeling that I was hoping for at the end of the weekend of not being able to lift my head or move my legs was missing. I'm not saying I wasn't pushed, because I was - but my head being somewhere else basically had me numb. And when I started getting sick before Thursday camp started it was 100% mind over matter that carried me through the workouts. I'd give anything for a re-do. A re-do to go harder, feel better & have ended the camp on Sunday by chasing Shane & Michelle around PV running HARD vs the zone 1, 2 hour run I ended up doing ...

Remembering, By Taylor Neil (my mini-me niece)

I am not ready to write about the unimaginable, sudden loss of my mom yet… But, beyond her years and maturity my amazing 9 year old niece sent me this email this morning. It was just too precious not to share… Clearly, My sister and brother in law could not be doing a better job of raising her. We all remember Grandmy Sue.She was a wonderful Nurse,Mom,Grandma,Sister,Cousin, But best of all a wonderful wife. She did every thing she could to help everybody she could. We are all thankful of how long she was here and how much she did help us. She was a wonderful nurse. She helped every body she could from giving them a bandaid to giving them medicine. She was a wonderful mom to Holly, Krista and Michael. She loved them very much. She took them to school every day. She was a wonderful Grandma not only to me but to Stephenie,Jack and now Michela. She spent alot of time with of her grankids. She was a wonderful sister. She was a wonderful cousin. But most importantly she was ...

March, WHAT?

Where the hell did February go? Between a HUGE training month and weekly visits to the vet for Baxter's leg as well as spending every minute worried about him, I guess time just slipped away… But, it's March. And, BATSHITCRAZY camp time is almost here! It was maybe 6 months ago, another athlete of hers & I were chatting in the pool wondering what it would take to get Michelle out here for a camp. Turns out, not that much convincing. By December the plans were made, flights purchased and her # howmuchcanI trash teach in just a long weekend efforts in full force. Well, last weekend while sipping a bloody mary reading a book at the beach, I mapped out the routes for her on mapmyride .com, so I guess when I'm dying I have no one to blame but myself. I will however NOT take blame for some other ideas she texted me about a couple days ago. I'll participate, just cause I can't seem to say NO, but won't take blame. I told her she may have a couple of at...
