Viva Las Vegas

Las Vegas. Most people either love it, or hate it. I've always been somewhere in between those two.

My first trip to Vegas was for a family reunion/wedding. It was just a few months after moving to AZ. I was young, broke and single. My date was my bff & roomie, Erin. We drove over after work on a Friday & crashed on an extra bed in my sister's hotel. My family spoiled us and bought our drinks, food and mom even gave us a little cash to gamble with. The wedding was great, but Erin & I were on a mission to hit the "clubs." Ten years later & I can hardly remember how the night went, other than we were completely decked out in cheap "forever 21ish" outfits & we ended up at some after hours nightclub. We left the club the next day just in time to shower & meet my mom for lunch before driving back home. Needless to say that didn't go so well, as we were both so tired and spent from staying up all night that we ended up pulling into a motel 6 because we just couldn't stay awake and drive. We woke up bright and early the next day and headed into work - in the same cloths we left on Friday in.

Oh, youthful bliss...

My next stint in Vegas was with Roomie again, only this time we were meeting a crew from college and also seeing a Dave Mathews Band concert. We hit the infamous Studio 24 and stayed out all night. It was just like being back in college - staying out all night & late night munchies. Pretty much the only thing I miss about those days are the less painful hangovers...

A few other random trips to Vegas happened here and there, but all they did was leave a bad taste in my mouth. While I wasn't into drinking all night & didn't really have any money to gamble with, I kinda just decided Vegas wasn't for me.

I sucked it up and headed to Vegas last June for my girlfriend Shelb's bachelorette party. 20+girls for 3 nights in Vegas. Need I say more...

So, yes there were several more trips to Vegas to do either the Las Vegas triathlon in September (also my first tri!) or Rage in the Sage in April. A totally different kinda Vegas.

Well, I have to say I've changed my attitude. This past weekend in Vegas was a BLAST. Within a day of receiving a message from my uncle that they were heading there over the Final Four games, Shane received a fantastic offer in the mail to stay at the Wynn hotel or upgrade to a Suite at their Encore hotel. We jumped on the chance and made plans to, once again, give Vegas a try.

I can honestly say I am SO glad we did. Shane & I both had favorite trip to Vegas to date. I can not say enough good things about the Wynn/Encore hotel. It's clean, new, nice & the least smokey hotel in Vegas I have ever been in.

We had a blast our first night staying up until all hours playing blackjack with our foursome, and a few randoms joining our table here & there. They serve top shelf booze at the tables & the dealers were a HOOT.

We were given complimentary tickets to le Reve at the Wynn - a great water themed cirque' type show, and ended the weekend Sunday by seeing Beatles Love.

I had a blast playing blackjack, actually "switch," my new favorite game, and even walked away ahead! The food was fantastic at the restaraunts we chose. We went to the old strip downtown & played some more. Overall a great weekend with great company! Couldn't have had a better weekend (well ok, I could have done without loosing my ID, but oh well!)

So, here's to Viva Las Vegas - the grownup way. A completely different Vegas!
